Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as mentors and tutors in elementary, middle, and/or high schools, focusing on student success and positive behaviors. The program includes initial training and ongoing collaboration with teachers and school staff to support academic achievement.

Members receive a bi-weekly stipend, benefits, and opportunities for professional development and education awards through AmeriCorps.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident; DACA status not eligible.
• Age 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• GED or high school diploma, some college, or college degree.
• Background check required.
• Start by July/August 2025; location varies by city.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle and/or high school students.
• Help students earn academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and support teachers in class.
• Participate in training and collaborate with school staff throughout the year.
• Engage families and support whole-school initiatives and events.
