Job summary

City Year is seeking entry-level AmeriCorps members to coach and mentor students across elementary, middle, and high schools. You will plan and monitor progress, work with teachers on in-class support, and contribute to school-wide initiatives that boost student success.

You'll receive training at the start of the year, plus health and education benefits. This paid, full-time role offers a chance to develop leadership, teamwork, and service-minded skills in a dynamic educational setting.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location)

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor identified students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied learning activities
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to monitor student progress
• Support extended day and virtual programming before, during, and after school
• Help recognize and celebrate student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior
