Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as student success coaches and mentors in elementary to high school settings, supporting attendance, literacy and math skills, and positive school behaviors.

You will receive 2–4 weeks of training at the start of the year, work with teachers, and help plan individual student progress while collaborating with staff to strengthen whole-class instruction and learning opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience in mentoring or coaching is beneficial but not required; training is provided at start.
• Ability to engage students and support foundational literacy and math skills.
• Willingness to work with teachers and school staff to support classroom learning.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to promote academic success.
• Develop literacy and math activities tailored to each student’s level.
• Create and implement behavior management strategies in collaboration with teachers.
• Assist with classroom setup and facilitate a positive, engaging learning environment.
• Support school-wide initiatives and after-school programs to boost student engagement.
