Job summary

City Year is seeking a City Year AmeriCorps member to coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels, supporting academic success, attendance, and positive behaviors. Training is provided before the year starts, with ongoing collaboration with partner teachers and school staff.

You will assist with 1:1 and small-group coaching, create engaging activities, and contribute to school-wide initiatives to boost student engagement and family involvement.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (work authorization in the U.S. not sufficient).
• Be 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math activities tailored to student level and encourage assignment completion.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills throughout the day using proven learning strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record, and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space with the teacher.
