Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary, middle and high school levels to help them achieve academic success, improve attendance and build positive behaviors. You’ll plan and monitor progress, work with teachers on in-class instruction and small-group support, and help students stay engaged.

Experience isn’t required—City Year provides 2–4 weeks of training at year start and ongoing support from teachers and staff.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident and eligible to work in the U.S.
• Ages 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• GED or high school diploma; some college or college degree preferred.
• Able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.
• Background check required.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups.
• Support literacy and math activities with varied learning tasks.
• Create and implement behavior management strategies.
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress and data.
• Assist with school-wide initiatives and after-school programming.
• Help create a safe, engaging classroom space.
