Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels, helping them achieve academic success and improve attendance. You will plan and monitor progress, working with teachers on in-class and small-group support to foster positive behaviors.

The role starts in July/August 2025, includes 2–4 weeks of initial training, and offers benefits through City Year and AmeriCorps programs to support you and the students.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
• Have served no more than three AmeriCorps terms
• Agree to and complete a background check
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities
• Create and implement a behavior management system
• Develop interpersonal skills through learning, practice, reflection and repetition
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record and monitor progress in City Year’s data system
• Create an engaging, safe classroom space with the teacher
• Support extended day and after-school programs
• Help lead events recognizing student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior
