Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as entry-level student success coaches and mentors, supporting students across literacy and math development in school settings. Training is provided at the start of the year, with ongoing collaboration with teachers and school staff.

This full-time AmeriCorps role includes 2–4 weeks of onboarding, a focus on academic and behavioral coaching, and meaningful service opportunities in elementary to high school environments.

Qualifications

• No prior AmeriCorps or education experience required; 2–4 weeks of training provided.
• Ability to coach 1:1 and in small groups with diverse learners.
• Commitment to literacy, math development and positive student outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students: 1:1 and small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied learning activities by student level
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to collect, record, analyze and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
• Support after-school and extended day programs and student engagement initiatives
