Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members serve as entry-level student success coaches and mentors in schools, helping students improve attendance, literacy and math skills, and develop positive behaviors. You’ll plan and monitor progress and collaborate with teachers in classrooms and breakout spaces.

The program includes 2–4 weeks of training, a biweekly living stipend, and location-specific benefits; eligibility requires U.S.

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (Authorization to work in the U.S. is required).
• Be aged 17–25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups to support academic success.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities and encourage assignment completion.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop interpersonal skills through daily practice and reflection with students.
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to collect, record, analyze and monitor student progress.
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support and/or conduct extended day and virtual programming for students before, during and after school, including enrichment and clubs.
