Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary, middle and high schools, aiming to boost academic success, attendance, and positive behavior. You’ll work closely with teachers on classroom activities and targeted student support.

We provide 2–4 weeks of initial training, then ongoing collaboration with school staff to implement evidence-based strategies and engage students in learning and service activities.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching and mentoring students to academic success
• Ability to plan and monitor student progress with teachers
• Willingness to participate in school-wide initiatives and events

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor students 1:1 and in small groups
• Develop literacy and/or math skills with varied activities
• Create and implement behavior management strategies
• Collaborate with teachers to monitor student progress in City Year data system
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space in partnership with teachers
• Support extended day and virtual programming for students before, during and after school
• Help recognize student growth in math, literacy, attendance and behavior
