Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students to improve academic success and school engagement. You will receive training at the start of the year and work closely with teachers to support students 1:1 and in groups, while helping to create a positive classroom environment.

You’ll contribute to literacy, math, attendance and behavior goals, participate in both in-person and virtual activities, and be part of a nationwide service program that includes benefits and ongoing professional

Qualifications

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (start date varies by location).

Responsibilities

• Coaching and mentoring students to achieve academic success and improve attendance.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress; collaborate with teachers on instruction.
• Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups; support literacy and math skills.
• Create and implement behavior management systems and interpersonal skill development.
• Collaborate with teachers to collect, record, analyze and monitor student progress in City Year’s data system.
• Create a safe, engaging classroom space in partnership with the teacher.
• Support extended day and virtual programming, enrichment, and student clubs.
• Help recognize and celebrate student growth and achievements in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior.
