Job summary

City Year AmeriCorps members coach and mentor students across elementary to high school levels, focusing on academic success, attendance, and positive behaviors. Training is provided at year start, with ongoing collaboration with teachers and staff to support classroom learning and whole-school initiatives.

Participants gain experience in coaching, data-informed progress checks, and delivering engaging in-class and after-school activities, including enrichment programs and service-learning

Qualifications

• Experience in all these tasks is not necessary. We provide 2-4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to support you.
• Focus on coaching and mentoring students to improve academic success, attendance, and behavior.

Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle and/or high school students to help them achieve academic success.
• Plan and monitor individual student progress and work with teachers on in-class supports.
• Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills through varied activities and encourage assignment completion.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Collaborate with teachers and team members to collect and monitor student progress.
• Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.
• Support after-school and extended day programs including enrichment and clubs.
