Job summary

San Diego State University’s College of Arts and Letters seeks a General Academic Advisor to provide individualized, student-centered advising across designated majors and minors, guiding course selection, GE, major/minor requirements, and degree planning.

As part of the Student Success Center, you will monitor progress, outreach proactively, collaborate with faculty advisors, and connect students with resources that support their academic and personal development.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field preferred.
• Two years of professional experience in student services or related field is typically demonstrated.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and group advising on course selection, GE, major/minor requirements, and degree planning.
• Monitor academic progress, identify challenges, and provide proactive outreach to support retention and timely graduation.
• Interpret and communicate academic policies, assist with petitions, course exceptions, and processes in collaboration with faculty advisors.
