Job summary

San Diego State University is seeking a General Academic Advisor for the College of Arts and Letters Student Success Center. The role provides student-centered advising across majors/minors, guides academic planning, and supports retention and graduation efforts.

You will collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to offer proactive outreach, manage advising records in SDSU Navigate, and engage students through orientation and related initiatives.

Qualifications

• Two years of professional experience in student services or related field; a master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• Equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a related field; substitutions may apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized and group advising on courses, GE, major/minor requirements, and degree completion.
• Monitor progress and provide proactive outreach to support retention and timely graduation.
• Interpret and communicate university policies; assist with petitions, course exceptions, and related processes with faculty advisors.
• Support recruitment, orientation, Explore SDSU, and other student engagement events.
• Help students identify and access university resources and services based on needs.
• Maintain accurate advising records using SDSU Navigate (EAB) and other systems.
• Collaborate with faculty, departments, and campus offices to coordinate advising services.
