Job summary

San Diego State University seeks an Academic Advisor to support Fowler College of Business students from enrollment through graduation. You will advise individuals and groups, interpret policies, and connect students with resources to promote persistence and success.

Join a student-centered Center for Student Success team and help diverse undergraduates understand requirements, degree progress, and policies while collaborating on program enhancements and university initiatives.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a related field.
• Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas; evidence of competence and growth.
• A master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of professional experience.
• Familiarity with SDSU general education and graduation requirements is preferred.
• Experience with SDSU systems such as my.SDSU, uAchieve, and SDSU Navigate (EAB) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive academic advising to current, prospective, and former students and graduation candidates through individual, group, virtual, phone, and email interactions.
• Guide students in understanding degree requirements, General Education, graduation requirements, academic policies, and progress toward degree completion.
• Counsel academically at-risk students and those experiencing barriers to degree progress, developing strategies and connecting them with resources.
• Interpret academic records, degree evaluations, and university policies to address complex student situations and recommend appropriate actions.
• Collaborate with colleagues and campus partners to develop Center for Student Success programs, resources, and advising services.
