UNC Health is seeking a Student Nurse Extern I for its Hillsborough Campus. The extern assists the RN partner in the Family Medicine unit, supporting admissions, treatments, and discharges within a 36-hour weekly schedule.

The position emphasizes hands-on nursing experience in a clinical setting with supervision. The extern program runs from May 24 to July 31, 2027, offering hospital-based exposure and practical skills development for prelicensure nursing students.

Qualifications

• Fluent in verbal and written English.
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in the delivery of patient care.
• Basic computer skills.
• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs; patient transfers and related tasks.
• Frequent to continuous standing/walking.
• CPR possibly required in some roles.

Responsabilités

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information; reports changes to RN/Provider.
• Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provides care/treatments per plan of care including vital signs and basic procedures.
• Provides direct personal care for activities of daily living as outlined in the plan of care.
• Performs indirect care such as housekeeping, restocking, and clerical tasks.
• Reinforces patient teaching and documents understanding.
