Job summary

UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill is seeking a Student Nurse Extern I to join the 31-bed Family and General Medicine unit. You will work with an RN partner to provide supervised nursing care as part of your prelicensure education.

The externship runs May 24–July 31, 2027, and you will be supervised by an RN, performing tasks within the Nursing Assistant I scope. This is a temporary full-time position onsite with a focus on hands-on learning and patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months from start date.
• Nursing Assistant I listed with NC DHHS; BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Observe, collect, and document patient information; report changes to RN or provider.
• Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
