UNC Health Care System in Chapel Hill, NC, seeks a Student Nurse Extern I to support the patient care team under a RN partner. The position runs May 24–July 31, 2027 as a temporary full-time assignment with 36 hours per week.

The extern will perform delegated nursing assistant duties within the Nursing Assistant I scope, under supervision. Requires enrollment in an accredited nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months and BLS/NA I credentials.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months from start date.

Responsabilités

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information and reports changes to a RN or provider.
• Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Provides care/treatments per plan of care including vital signs, specimen collection, wound care, and basic procedures.
• Delivers direct personal care for activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation).
• Performs indirect care duties such as cleaning, stocking supplies, and aiding in patient room turnover.
• Assists in patient and family teaching and supports standard safety practices.
