UNC Health Care System is offering a Student Nurse Extern I position in the Family and General Medicine unit in Chapel Hill, NC. The extern will work with an RN partner within their Nursing Assistant I scope of practice to gain hands‑on experience.

Reports to the department's Patient Services Manager or Education Leader, with supervision to perform routine patient care activities and participate in safety initiatives. This is a temporary full‑time role with 36 hours per week onsite.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• Nursing Assistant I certification listed with North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsabilités

• Observes, collects, and documents patient information and reports changes to the registered nurse or provider.
• Participates in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
• Assists patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge.
• Performs plan‑of‑care activities: vital signs, measurements, specimen collection, wound care, and assistive care.
• Provides direct personal care for activities of daily living and supports ambulation as needed.
• Maintains unit cleanliness, restocking, and supports new staff and students.

Formation

High School Diploma/GED
