The externship emphasizes hands-on learning, professional role socialization, and adherence to the Nursing Assistant I scope of practice, with supervision by an RN partner and a Patient Services Manager.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months from the start of the externship.
• Nursing Assistant I licensure per NC DHHS and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Observe, document, and report patient information; assist in patient care under RN supervision.
• Assist with admission, orientation, and discharge processes.
• Provide routine nursing care activities including vital signs, specimen collection, basic wound care, and assistance with activities of daily living.
• Support patient and family education as directed by the RN/provider.
• Assist in routine examinations and procedures; procure equipment and supplies as needed.
