Job summary

The Student Nurse Extern I (SNE I) at UNC Medical Center, Cardiology Oncology Stepdown, offers nursing students an immersive prelicensure experience in a 13-bed COSU unit. You will work with an RN partner within your Nursing Assistant I scope of practice, under supervision, to provide technically skilled care and support patient families.

Responsibilities include observing and documenting patient information, assisting with admissions and discharges, measuring vitals, basic wound care, mobility

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current enrollment in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with NC Department of Health and Human Services.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Fluent in English (verbal and written).
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments in patient care.
• Basic computer skills.
• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs; able to stand/walk frequently.

Responsibilities

• Observe, collect, and document patient information; report changes to RN or provider.
• Assist patients and families during admissions and discharge.
• Provide care/treatments as outlined in the plan of care (vital signs, wound care, mobility support).
• Assist with activities of daily living and routine tasks.
• Indirect care: cleaning, restocking, transporting supplies, and clerical duties as needed.
• Support teaching to patients and document understanding.
