UNC Medical Center’s Cardiac Specialty unit offers a Student Nurse Extern I position from May 24 – July 31, 2027. The extern works with an RN partner within the Nursing Assistant I scope to gain hands-on experience in a 20-bed, high-acuity cardiac unit.

Responsibilities include patient observation, vital signs, admissions/discharge support, and documentation under supervision. Requires enrollment in an accredited nursing program and BLS; lifting up to 40–50 lbs is expected.

Formación

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited prelicensure nursing program with anticipated graduation within 12 months.
• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with NC DHHS and BLS certification.

Responsabilidades

• Observe, collect, and document patient information and report changes.
• Assist in admissions, orientation, discharge and family education.
• Provide direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision.
• Support with routine examinations and equipment procurement during emergencies.
• Maintain unit cleanliness and restock supplies.
