Job summary

Washington State University’s Bursar's Office seeks an Account Specialist (Full-time, 100% FTE) to manage delinquent student accounts across federal, institutional, and short-term loan programs in Pullman, WA. You will assign, monitor, and resolve past-due receivables in accordance with university policies and state/federal regulations.

The role requires interaction with students and staff, strong customer service, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to interpret policies.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of full-time clerical experience OR equivalent education/experience.
• Experience in collections, accounts receivable, or student financial services OR equivalent combination of education and experience; experience using computerized financial systems.
• Customer service experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to interpret and apply policies and regulations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to exercise discretion and professionalism in sensitive situations.

Responsibilities

• Perform accounts receivable and loan collection activities for delinquent student accounts.
• Assign, monitor, and resolve past-due receivables in accordance with university policy and applicable regulations.
• Interact with students, staff, and the public, providing information on policies and procedures.
• Serve as a secondary contact for external collection agencies and internal stakeholders; ensure FERPA and FDCPA compliance.
