Job summary

AECOM seeks an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Structural group in Chicago, IL, supporting water and industrial projects with design and forensic work on new structures and water treatment plant structures. The role emphasizes hands-on modeling and field review alongside client interactions.

Responsibilities include design work, field sketches, reporting, and budget adherence while mentoring entry-level engineers. Travel up to 30% is expected.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Structural Engineering plus 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Valid driver’s license and motor vehicle records check.
• Valid SE license in the State of Illinois and/or PE in any reciprocating State.
• US Citizenship or green card is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
• Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established procedures (field notes, sketches, photos).
• Works on detailed or routine structural engineering assignments involving hand calculations and computer modeling (RISA 3D, STAAD 3, Excel, AutoCAD, REVIT).
• Experience in technical writing of proposals and reports, including reasonable cost estimates and schedules.
• Performs fieldwork to review building conditions and prepare detailed field sketches.
• Occasional travel up to 30%.
