Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Structural group to support our Water Business Line in Chicago, IL with experience in design of new structures as well as structural forensic work, related to water treatment plant structures, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Duties include hands-on modeling, field sketches, and collaborations with multidisciplinary teams. Travel up to 30% is expected; mentorship of junior engineers is a key part of the role.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Structural Engineering + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Valid Driver's license and motor vehicle records check.
• Valid SE license in the State of Illinois and/or PE in any reciprocating State.
• US Citizenship or green card is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
• Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using field notes, sketches, and photographs.
• Works on detailed structural engineering assignments involving hand calculations and computer modeling (RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, Excel, AutoCAD, REVIT).
• Experience in technical writing of proposals and reports with reasonable cost estimates and schedules.
• Performs fieldwork to review building conditions and prepare detailed field sketches.
• Occasional out-of-town traveling is necessary.
• Guides and mentors entry-level engineers.
• Independently performs tasks to complete primary design elements for engineering work.
