Job summary

AECOM is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Structural group in Chicago, IL, supporting the Water Business Line with design of new structures and forensic work for water treatment, commercial, and industrial buildings.

The role involves field data collection, hand calculations and modeling (RISA 3D, STAAD, AutoCAD, REVIT), and technical writing for proposals and reports. Travel up to 30% and on-site work are expected.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Structural Engineering + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
• Valid Driver’s license and motor vehicle records check
• Valid SE license in the State of Illinois
• US Citizenship is required
• Master's degree in Structural Engineering is preferred
• Microsoft Office Suite capabilities and use standard office software
• Technical experience related to current structural design codes (IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE-07, etc.)
• Capable of supporting multiple projects at a time and meeting project budgets and schedules
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Experience in water industry structural design

Responsibilities

• Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
• Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures such as field notes, sketches, and photographs.
• Works on detailed or routine structural engineering assignments involving hand calculations and computer modeling tasks using structural programs (RISA 3D, STAAD 3, Excel Spreadsheet, AutoCAD, REVIT, etc).
• Experience in technical writing of proposals and reports, using reasonable cost estimates and schedules.
• Performs fieldwork to review building conditions and prepare detailed field sketches.
• Occasional out-of-town traveling is necessary.
• Guides and mentors entry-level engineers.
• Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering work.
• Client presentations are expected; therefore, acceptable levels of verbal and written communication skills are required.
