Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a 3D-focused structural designer in Reston, VA, to develop detailed 3D structural layouts and support a multi-disciplinary design team. You will contribute to foundations, steel frames, and concrete detailing while collaborating with engineers across disciplines.

The role requires 4+ years of structural drafting experience, proficiency with 3D tools, and the ability to guide junior staff. A strong emphasis on quality, collaboration, and field support is expected.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in drafting or HS diploma with 1+ years drafting coursework or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of detailed design experience in structural steel and reinforced concrete drawings.
• Proficiency with design software tools for 3D plant layout models.
• Experience reviewing structural layout drawings involving steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment and piping supports, foundations, and rebar detailing.
• Ability to interface with engineering and design teams of other disciplines in the power plant design process.

Responsibilities

• Develop structural layout drawings in 3D models as part of the design team.
• Tackle design challenges for structural supports and foundations; troubleshoot issues.
• Use 3D modeling software to generate schematics.
• Coordinate detailed design phases for the integrated structural model.
• Support other designers and project team members to ensure timely design.
• Plan and execute structural design deliverables individually and as part of a team.
• Assist senior designers and engineers in field walkdowns and data gathering at client facilities.
• Mentor junior drafters and designers in drafting tools.
