Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a structural designer to join the team on a hybrid schedule based in the Richmond, VA area. You will develop structural layout drawings in 3-D models and coordinate design phases with multi-disciplinary teams.

The role includes designing structural supports and foundations, reviewing layout drawings, and mentoring junior drafters. Field walkdowns with senior staff may be required.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of detailed design experience in structural steel and reinforced concrete drawings.
• Experience reviewing structural layout drawings including steel frames, connections, concrete members, and supports.
• Ability to interface with engineering and design teams in power plant design.

Responsibilities

• Develop structural physical layout drawings in a 3-D model as part of a multidisciplinary design team.
• Design structural supports and foundations; investigate and solve complex structural design issues.
• Use 3D modeling tools to generate structural schematics.
• Coordinate detailed design phases for an integrated structural design model.
• Support other designers and project team members to ensure timely design delivery.
• Plan and execute structural design deliverables both independently and as part of a team.
• Possibly accompany field walkdowns to client facilities and assist senior staff.
• Guide others in drafting tool usage and mentor less experienced drafters.

Education

Associate's Degree in drafting or equivalent (high school diploma plus drafting coursework)
