Job summary

City of Austin is seeking a Maintenance Worker to support the public works team in storm drainage construction and maintenance projects. Under direct supervision, you will perform a range of duties to ensure finished work meets required standards and may interact with the public.

You will operate hand tools and light/heavy equipment, assist with traffic control, build concrete forms, and complete daily logs.

Qualifications

Six (6) months experience in maintenance and/or construction and/or concrete work.
Valid Class “C” Driver’s License.
Must maintain a good driving record.

Responsibilities

Performs preventative equipment maintenance and minor repairs to ensure proper operating conditions.
Fills out proper checklist and uses ZONAR to report malfunctions and repair needs to the crew lead or supervisor.
Operates hand tools and equipment such as jackhammers, air compressors, generators, chainsaws, mowers, and other tools.
Performs traffic control at job sites by placing cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic and sets forms.
Builds concrete forms and structures; pours concrete and prepares bedding material for pipe placement; places asphalt.
Performs landscape maintenance including trimming trees, mowing, seeding, and erosion control.
Works in storm water management facilities and open waterways; supports emergency responses as needed.
Prepares daily documentation such as logs, inventory and material requisitions.
