Job summary

City of Austin is seeking a Drainage Operations and Maintenance Assistant to support the Open Waterways section of the Watershed Protection Department. The role involves routine maintenance of storm drainage facilities, vegetation management, and basic construction tasks in outdoor environments.

Responsibilities include operating hand tools, performing minor equipment repairs, and assisting with emergency response during weather events.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months experience in maintenance and/or construction and/or concrete work.
• Valid Class C Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
• Ability to perform continuous outdoor activity and lift up to 90 pounds.
• Experience reading and following written or online instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance and rehabilitation of storm drainage infrastructure.
• Perform equipment maintenance and basic repairs to keep tools and vehicles ready.
• Control traffic at job sites by placing signs, cones, and barricades.
• Construct concrete forms and structures for drainage infrastructure and roads.
• Maintain landscaping, erosion control, and vegetation in rights-of-way.
• Participate in training to obtain a CDL and enhance job skills.
