Job summary

The City of Austin seeks a versatile heavy equipment operator and maintenance specialist to execute critical infrastructure, landscape, and storm water projects. You will operate dump trucks, loaders, excavators, and a variety of hand tools, ensuring preventive maintenance and readiness for deployment.

Essential duties include traffic control, reading blueprints, and performing high-quality repairs with minimal rework.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two years' experience in maintenance and/or construction.
• Valid Class A CDL; endorsements may be required within 120 days of hire.
• Must maintain a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a wide array of gas, diesel, and propane equipment.
• Perform and supervise preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure proper operation.
• Manage traffic control at job sites and install safety barriers and signs.
• Read blueprints and interpret engineering drawings; lay out forms and asphalt/concrete work.
• Assist in storm water facilities work and erosion control projects.
