Job summary

City of Austin is seeking a Drainage Operations and Maintenance Assistant to support storm drainage construction and maintenance projects. You will assist with equipment maintenance, hand-tool use, traffic control, and concrete work in open waterways and road areas.

The role requires a valid Class C Driver’s License, ability to lift up to 90 pounds, and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather. The position involves daily logging, training, and potential after-hours work during weather

Qualifications

• Six months experience in maintenance or construction.
• Valid Class C Driver's License.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform physical tasks and lift up to 90 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive equipment maintenance and basic repairs.
• Report malfunctions using proper checklists.
• Operate hand tools and light/heavy equipment safely.
• Assist with traffic control, set up cones and signs.
• Build forms and prepare bedding for pipe placement and road repairs.
• Conduct landscape maintenance and erosion control tasks.
• Assist in emergency response during floods or severe weather.
• Document daily logs and material requisitions.
