Job summary

The City of Austin is seeking a Drainage Operations and Maintenance II to perform skilled construction and maintenance in drainage and waterway projects at 9200 Sherman Rd., Austin, TX. The role involves operating heavy equipment, driving trucks, and maintaining storm-water facilities.

Responsibilities include traffic control, concrete work, vegetation management, and emergency response. A CDL and strong safety record are required to perform these tasks reliably.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two years experience in maintenance or construction, including 6 months experience operating heavy equipment.
• One year of additional related experience may substitute for one year of high school, up to four years.

Responsibilities

• Operate a minimum of one specialized heavy equipment type per Equipment Training Program.
• Drive trucks and trailer rigs to haul equipment and materials, including concrete mix trucks and tandem dumps with trailers.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs to ensure proper operating conditions and report malfunctions to supervisor.
• Operate and maintain gas, diesel, and propane equipment (jack hammer, air compressor, generator, saws, mowers, trimmers, etc.).
• Work in storm water management facilities and on erosion control projects in open waterways and wet environments.
• Set up traffic control, place cones and barricades, and flag traffic at job sites.
• Build concrete forms and pour/finish concrete; lay asphalt mixes as needed for maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain vegetation, including mowing, seeding, sod, and erosion control; respond to emergencies after hours.
