Job summary

Dollar General is seeking an Assistant Store Manager in Knoxville, TN to support daily store operations and lead a customer-first team. You will work under the Store Manager to supervise staff, handle merchandising, deposits, and reporting while ensuring policy compliance and risk reduction.

The role emphasizes strong communication, problem-solving, and hands-on leadership in a fast-paced retail environment. Prior retail supervisory experience is a plus; occasional bank deposits may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One year retail experience preferred; six months supervisory preferred.
• Must be able to operate cash register and POS systems.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide superior customer service leadership; greet customers and operate cash register and scanner to itemize purchases.
• Open and close the store a minimum of two days per week.
• Assist Store Manager with scheduling, training, safety meetings, and policy compliance.
• Rotate merchandise, stock shelves, and ensure planograms are followed.
• Maintain inventory accuracy by reducing damages and controlling shrink.
• Ensure financial integrity through cash handling, deposits, refunds, and overrides as directed.
• Assist with store management in the Store Manager's absence.
