Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager for our Carbondale, IL location. You will lead all store operations, including hiring, training, merchandising, ordering and daily opening/closing. The role emphasizes staff development, customer service leadership and adherence to safety and cash-control policies.

You will recruit, train and evaluate employees, monitor sales and inventory, and ensure the store runs efficiently while meeting company standards and legal requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and cashier accountability.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, hire and retain qualified employees per federal/state laws and company policies; ensure staffing.
• Provide training for employees; conduct performance evaluations; address gaps or counseling up to termination.
• Make recommendations regarding employee pay rate and advancement.
• Communicate performance, conduct and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events.
• Ensure store is properly staffed and opened/closed each day.
• Open the store at least twice per week and close at least twice per week.
• Evaluate operating statements for trends, profits, shrink, and errors.
• Manage ordering to meet stock targets; review weekly plans and cycle counts.
• Staging, stocking and storage of merchandise following company processes.
• Ensure merchandise is presented with proper pricing, signage and fixtures.
• Maintain inventory accuracy; manage damages and audits.
• Ensure financial integrity through cashier accountability and security practices.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organized store environment.
