Job summary

Books-A-Million, Inc. in Goldsboro, NC seeks a General Manager to lead store operations, drive sales, and deliver a customer-focused experience.

You will hire, coach, and manage the team, balance budgets, and partner with the community to ensure every visitor finds the right books and creates lasting relationships. This leadership role requires strategic thinking, hands-on coaching, and a passion for books.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous management experience
• Demonstrated ability to act in a mature and conscientious manner
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates
• Strong decision-making, communication, and merchandising skills
• Successful completion of all required background screenings
• A college degree in a business-related field (preferred)
• Experience in book, specialty, or media retail (preferred)
• Love of books and reading with curiosity about what's new (preferred)
• Ownership mindset and accountability (preferred)
• Commitment to community engagement (preferred)
• Passion for developing others (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Create a store that feels welcoming, vibrant, and connected to the community around it.
• Keep the store running smoothly while making thoughtful decisions that bring customers back, help your team thrive, and move the business forward.
• Turn big-picture plans into everyday results by planning, organizing, and directing store activities.
• Be the leader your store can count on - create a safe, secure environment where associates can thrive, customers feel welcome, and the store runs with care and confidence.
• Build a team that loves books and delivers for customers by hiring great talent, putting the right people in the right place, and creating schedules and daily priorities.
• Grow the leaders around you through hands-on coaching, training, and development of your Management staff.
• Keep everyone connected and moving in the same direction through daily briefings and weekly meetings.
