Books-A-Million in Hanover, PA, is seeking a General Manager to lead the store, own the team, customers, community, and results. You’ll drive sales, service, and operations as Manager On Duty with your leadership team.

You’ll hire, coach, and inspire a team of associates, develop store plans, control expenses, and ensure a welcoming, book-loving environment that draws readers through the door. This role requires proven management experience, strong decision‑making, and a passion for books.

Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous management experience
• Strong customer service skills
• Demonstrated ability to act in a mature and conscientious manner
• Ability to supervise a large number of associates
• Strong decision‑making, communication, and merchandising skills
• Successful completion of all required background screenings
• A college degree in a business‑related field is preferred
• Experience in book, specialty, or media retail is preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead the store as Manager On Duty with the management team
• Oversee day-to-day store operations and drive sales and customer service
• Plan, organize, and direct store activities to achieve measurable progress
• Create a welcoming store environment connected to the community
• Hire, coach, and develop a coaching-focused management team
• Ensure store staffing, schedules, and prioritization align with goals
• Maintain a safe, secure environment and manage budgetary expenses
• Build relationships with customers, associates, and local partners
