Job summary

Mercyhealth seeks a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to clean, inspect, assemble, sterilize and distribute surgical instruments across the hospital. The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and teamwork, with a 40-hour workweek and a day shift from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

with rotating weekend call shifts. Key duties include decontamination, instrument packaging, sterilization, logs review, and supporting case carts.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Attention to detail and accuracy essential.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work in a team and maintain documentation.
• Commitment to safety and PPE procedures.

Responsibilities

• Disassembles, inspects and prepares instruments for decontamination according to IFU.
• Loads and operates washers and ultrasonic cleaners.
• Inspects instruments for damage and tests function and sharpness.
• Assembles instrument sets and replaces missing items.
• Prepares instruments for sterilization using aseptic technique.
• Loads and operates sterilizers.
• Documents cycle parameters and logs.
• Responds to customer requests for supplies and case carts.
• Maintains clean and organized work areas.
• Learns instrument tracking system and IUSS procedures.
• Performs rounds delivering sterile instruments.
• Ensures regulatory standards compliance.
