Job summary

Affirm is seeking a senior engineering leader for the Ledger Engineering team to set technical strategy for backend systems at scale. You will collaborate with product, design, analytics, and finance to ensure reliability and architecture that supports strong growth.

You will drive high-impact features, oversee monitoring and on-call readiness, and mentor engineers. This remote-first role emphasizes technical excellence and cross-functional impact.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience in financial systems, ledgering, treasury or related domains where data accuracy is critical.
• Ability to define technical and execution plans and deliver major features or components.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and scaling from low-level code to system architecture.
• Strong collaboration and communication across engineering and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and align with critical business projects.
• Collaborate with product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainability, risk management, and trade-offs are understood.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining and promoting technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own operations and availability: monitoring, on-call, playbooks, testing, and incident response.
• Establish code review and design standards and propagate them beyond the team through writing and tech talks.
• Develop talent through mentoring, feedback, and leading by example.
