Job summary

Affirm's Ledger Engineering team seeks a senior backend leader to set technical strategy for a year-long horizon, aligning with product management, design and analytics to ensure sustainability, risks are understood, and business impact is clear.

You will own operations, monitoring, on-call readiness, and playbooks, and champion code quality, architecture standards, and a culture of ownership across the team.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience in financial systems, ledgering or treasury domains where data accuracy and reliability matter.
• Ability to define technical and execution plans and write high-quality, maintainable code.
• Thrives in ambiguous environments and understands architecture of large systems.
• Proven ability to gather and iterate on feedback from engineers and cross-functional partners.
• Strong verbal and written communication with global teams.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
