Job summary

Affirm is hiring for a senior backend leader to shape technical strategy and drive scalable systems for our Ledger Engineering team. You will collaborate across product, design and analytics to ensure reliability and business impact.

You will own the team’s operations, set design standards and mentor engineers, while delivering features in financial platforms with high accuracy and strong cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience in financial systems, ledgering or treasury domains where accuracy matters.
• Strong coding practices and ability to communicate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and align with business priorities.
• Collaborate across product, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and risk awareness.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining technical solutions and operating processes.
• Own team operations and availability with monitoring, on-call readiness and runbooks.
• Set code review and design standards and advocate them beyond the team.
• Mentor and develop team members through feedback and example.
