Job summary

Rula is a remote-first company revolutionizing mental healthcare by connecting people to care through a seamless patient onboarding experience. We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Patient Onboarding team, writing code while guiding multiple teams and shaping AI-enabled development practices.

You will collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Analytics to deliver high-impact journeys from first contact through registration and care initiation, while owning technical direction

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including Staff-level scope or leading complex initiatives across multiple teams or systems.
• Strong full-stack engineering experience with modern frontend frameworks, backend APIs, data modeling, and distributed systems.
• Demonstrated experience leading technically complex projects from problem definition through design, implementation, launch, and production support.
• Experience working on high-impact user journeys such as onboarding, checkout, registration, eligibility, payments, marketplaces, or other conversion-critical workflows.
• Demonstrated experience influencing technical direction across functions or teams with Product, Design, Data, or other engineering teams.
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted software development tools (such as Claude Code) as part of regular engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and deliver complex initiatives across product areas.
• Write code while guiding other engineers and setting standards.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Analytics to move fast and ensure quality.
• Improve foundations and engineering practices to accelerate delivery.
• Provide ownership and accountability for critical parts of the patient onboarding journey.
