Job summary

Rula is a remote-first company hiring a Sr. Staff Engineer – Applied AI, Patient to help Patient Engineering build and scale AI/ML-powered patient experiences across matching, ranking, onboarding, and personalization.

Rula is at an important stage in its ML journey, with production models and pipelines in use and more capabilities ahead. You will lead hands-on technical work, develop reusable capabilities, and partner with the ML team on standards and architecture to accelerate delivery.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software and/or ML engineering experience with Python; building scalable systems and writing/ reviewing production-quality code.
• Deep hands-on ML expertise across the lifecycle: problem formulation, feature engineering, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement; mentoring engineers and setting technical direction.
• Experience building shared ML infrastructure or reusable capabilities used across teams (feature infra, pipelines, model serving, observability).
• Strong experience with recommendation, ranking, personalization, search, or matching systems; rigorous evaluation linking offline to online outcomes.
• Hands-on experience building and operating modern foundation models/GenAI systems in production, including reliability, latency, cost, and safety.

Responsibilities

• Develop and improve production ML models and AI-powered systems.
• Build reusable capabilities needed by Patient Engineering; partner with the ML team on standards and architectural decisions.
• Determine whether problems are best solved with custom ML, a foundation model/AI service, deterministic software, or a hybrid approach.
• Enable Patient Engineering to deliver faster, higher-quality AI-driven patient experiences.
