Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to serve as a technical anchor for its AI-native banking systems, owning core infrastructure, data platforms, and integration with Affirm Inc. You will set direction, design with a small, high-skill team, and push AI-enabled engineering across the stack.

You will collaborate with Legal and Compliance, drive excellence in architecture, and mentor engineers while delivering secure, auditable systems for a regulated financial service.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with staff-level ownership and launch/operations responsibility.
• Ability to define architecture and multi-quarter technical strategy across bank systems.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools and iterative improvement.
• Experience in regulated banking environments with examiner-facing documentation.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for bank systems, cloud infra, data platform, and CI/CD.
• Own the hardest problems end-to-end, with clear failure domains and runbooks.
• Establish patterns and standards to enable a small team to scale impact.
• Ship AI-first capabilities and push the frontier of AI-leveraged engineering.
• Lead vendor evaluation, integration, and ongoing oversight across core stacks.
