Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for Affirm’s production systems. You’ll blend traditional distributed systems work with AI-assisted development to help teams understand, debug, and improve the health of services.

This is a highly creative role with a strong emphasis on reliability, quality, and maintainability, while maintaining a practical, hands-on approach and “vibe coding” mindset.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale (Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes)
• Experience shipping web apps with React or Vue
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering significant features with elegant, extensible design
• Proven track record of making significant changes in a large code base with safe practices
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with global teams
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience or higher

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team and lead engineers through ambiguity
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics across the lifecycle
• Identify issues and lead efforts to solve them
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts and on-call efforts
• Set and improve code review and design standards across teams
• Mentor teammates and lead by example
