Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for affirm’s production systems. You’ll blend distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development to give teams a single place to understand, debug, and improve the health of their services.

This is a highly creative, hands-on role for someone who loves “vibe coding” — rapidly iterating, shipping, and refining with strong intuition— while still holding a very high bar for reliability,

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale (Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes).
• Experience shipping web apps using declarative UI frameworks (React or Vue).
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations.
• Ability to define a technical plan for major features with simple, extensible design.
• Comfort making large changes in a large codebase with supporting tools and practices.
• Proactive growth mindset and seeking feedback from team and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a related Bachelor’s degree.

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics during ideation and decisions.
• Identify and lead solutions to project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Support operations and availability by monitoring metrics and on-call duties.
• Set or improve code review and design standards across the team.
• Mentor teammates through feedback and leadership by example.
