Affirm, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to anchor a small, AI-native team building the bank's critical systems. You will own architecture across cloud, data, and core banking integration while working with senior leadership on strategy.

You’ll shape patterns, elevate engineers, and drive vendor selection for trusted, compliant operation, with a strong emphasis on AI-enabled engineering and regulatory alignment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with staff-level credentials.
• Ability to own ambiguous, high-stakes systems end-to-end.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to improve development velocity.
• Background in regulated environments (banking/payments) with audit-ready docs.
• Experience selecting, integrating, and operating third-party platforms.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction across the bank's systems and integration boundaries.
• Own the hardest problems end-to-end with clear failure domains and runbooks.
• Define patterns and standards to empower a small, high-performing team.
• Lead vendor selection and ongoing oversight of core third-party platforms.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Finance to bake compliance in from day one.
• Ensure reliability, observability, and disaster-recovery practices for bank systems.
