Ohio University Counseling and Psychological Services seeks a Staff Counselor for a 9-month assignment serving the university community.
Responsibilities include providing individual, group and crisis counseling, supervising interns, and engaging in outreach and clinical documentation. After-hours emergencies and collaboration with medical personnel are expected as part of student mental health services.

Job Description Summary Department Summary This is a 9 month generalist counselor position responsible for providing mental health services to student clients at Counseling and Psychological Services, including after-hours emergency, supervising Master’s level graduate interns in Counselor Education and Social Work, and engaging in outreach programming.
Position Profile Provides mental health care and education to students and the University community. May provide services in a specialized area. Provides triage, intervention, and crisis support services. Provides individual and group therapy. Collaborates with other medical personnel concerning patient care. Coordinates and/or participates in community outreach programs.
Level Summary Manages and resolves complex and ambiguous issues. Works on both strategic and operational challenges, addressing problems that require advanced knowledge and experience. Often takes on leadership roles in projects or initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities Provides mentorship and guidance to team. Infrequently has a limited number of direct reports.
Fiscal Responsibilities May have budgetary responsibility for small-scale projects or initiatives.
Problem Solving Solves complex problems, often with limited guidance.
Independence of Action Works independently; seeks guidance for unusual situations.
Communication and Collaboration Collaborates with team members and external departments. May represent the team in meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Physical Requirements This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
Minimum Qualifications Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or in a related field and 5 or more years of related professional experience, or equivalent education and experience. Healthcare professionals must hold, or be eligible for, appropriate licensure as required by position.
Preferred Qualifications A Master’s degree from an accredited Counseling, Social Work or Psychology programs. Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio.

Work Schedule M-F 8-5; some evening and weekend hours are required to address university wide requests. Be part of the rotation to carry crisis phone 3 to 4 weeks a year and be able to respond in person within 30 minutes at the Athens Campus.
