Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the Fraud Decisioning team, building tools and systems that empower fraud fighting capabilities across the org. You will work with Product, ML, Analytics, and Business teams to drive data-driven decisions and protect customers and merchants while enabling growth.

You will mentor engineers, translate complex requirements into scalable designs, and help shape interview processes to ensure high-quality outcomes across the organization.

Qualifications

• 6–10+ years of software engineering with leadership experience.
• Experience architecting and maintaining complex systems.
• Proven ability to mentor junior engineers.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration with Product, ML, Analytics, and Business teams.
• Ability to translate business and product needs into scalable designs.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute large cross-functional initiatives, including: project definition, technical specification, task break-down, delivery, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Generate simple and elegant designs that are easily deployed and debugged, but anticipate the unhappy path.
• Review others’ work and provide constructive feedback to maintain high and consistent quality.
• Lead and mentor engineers to help them succeed and grow, and train them to own their pieces of the initiative.
• Incorporate needs and opinions from stakeholders, advocate for ideas, and create a shared understanding.
• Contribute to hiring decisions and develop the interview content and requirements.
