Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the FCM team to own architecture across the core workflow, including market data, order routing, settlement, and risk.

You will help drive a major replatforming to next-gen architecture and reduce legacy vendor dependencies while maintaining hands-on coding. The role requires 8+ years in backend engineering, experience with FCM/derivatives, and strong skills in Go or Java, in a regulated financial environment.

Qualifications

8+ years of backend engineering with ownership of distributed systems.
Direct FCM or derivatives experience with parts of the futures lifecycle.
Deep proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar).
Experience in a regulated financial environment where auditability matters.
Track record delivering end-to-end projects including replatforming or migration.
Utilizes generative AI responsibly with human oversight.

Responsibilities

Own design and architecture across the FCM core, from data to settlement and risk.
Drive the next-gen replatforming while reducing legacy dependencies.
Set technical bar through code reviews and standards.
Collaborate with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance to deliver auditable systems.
Mentor engineers to raise code quality and architectural rigor.
