Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the FCM team to own backend architecture across the full lifecycle, from market data to settlement and risk. You will lead a major replatforming effort, reduce legacy dependencies, and raise the technical bar across the organization while working closely with Product, Risk, and Compliance.

The role requires deep experience with distributed systems and a background in regulated environments, plus hands-on coding in Go (preferred) or Java.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience in production-grade systems.
• Direct experience with FCM or derivatives and the futures lifecycle.
• Strong proficiency in Go (preferred) or Java and event-driven architectures.
• Experience in regulated financial environments emphasizing correctness and auditability.
• End-to-end delivery experience, including replatforming or migrations.
• Ability to apply generative AI responsibly with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core, from market data to settlement and risk.
• Drive the next-gen replatforming and reduce legacy dependencies while improving reliability.
• Set the technical bar through code reviews, design reviews, and standards.
• Partner across pods and cross-functionally with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance.
• Mentor engineers to raise code quality and architectural rigor.
